In the past twelve months, vet clinics in Mildura have reported an increase in cases of canine Parvovirus. Parvovirus is a highly contagious disease that spreads through direct contact with other dogs or indirectly through faeces. Signs of Parvovirus include severe vomiting, diarrhoea (usually bloody), fever and general weakness. Too often, these cases result in death.
Unfortunately, cats can also become infected with a strain of feline Parvovirus known as Panleukopenia (pronounced like pan-leuko-peenia). Like Parvovirus, Panleukopenia is a highly contagious disease that spreads through faeces. Signs of Panleukopenia include loss of appetite, weight loss, extreme lethargy, vomiting, fever and diarrhoea (can be bloody).
